Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Phonics And Phonemic Awareness

This week, we’re continuing with CVC_E words in our phonics lessons. After our first two weeks of Vowel Bootcamp, we had 95% mastery of decoding cvc_e words and 80% mastery of spelling CVC_E words!! I’m so proud of the kids, and it feels good to see our resources work so well! This week we’re focused on spelling and writing cvc_e words and decoding words.

Phonemic Awareness Bootcamp
We will be using our large letter cards to spell and blend cvc_e words!

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Social Studies And Continents
This week, we’re kicking off our final module of our required reading curriculum. This module has us learning about continents and maps! This week we’re learning about Asia and Europe! We’re asking and answering questions, collecting text evidence, and reading The Story Of Ferdinand.

Kindergarten Weather Activities: Weather Unit
This week, we’re learning about weather with our Weather Research Project! We learn about different types of weather, we do daily weather observations and record our observations, and this week, we’re going to be the winner by blowing feathers!

We also start on day 1 with a weather word activity. This is a simple way to get kids talking and thinking about the weather. Students share all the weather words they can think of!
This week we’re learning about the sun and the wind. We do a read-aloud and record our learning on our graphic organizer.

Each day of the week, we also make daily weather observations. Our boss of the day serves as the meteorologist and looks outside to tell us the weather conditions. We use weather.gov to get the current temperature. Students record their observations in their Weather Observation Journals.

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Measurement
This week, we are moving on to measurement! We’re going to sort by size, measure with dog biscuits, measure our friends, our feet and find out how heavy things are!

We start off our measurement unit with our measurement words activity to get the kids thinking about measurement. Then I give them strips of paper and tell them to put them in order by size.

Day 2 is Measuring Penny. We read the book Measuring Penny and we measure things in the classroom using…dog biscuits.

On day 3 we measure our friends. Luckily the tile in our classroom is exactly 1 foot so it’s easy to measure our friends!

Day 4 is our favorite measurement activity. We get to find out how big our foot is. The kids trace each other’s foot and then we measure the size of our feet with different objects. Seriously. They giggle and laugh the entire time! And they’re learning.

Finally we measure how everything things are using a balance and cubes!

Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: April Fool’s Day Idea
Since this week is April Fool’s Day, we’re going to use the tried and true brownies trick!
Kindergarten Lesson Plans And Activities: Morning Meeting
This week, our greeting is an egg greeting. We choose an egg, open the egg, and greet the person whose name is inside the egg.
Our activity is a game called ZOOM!
