Schedulin Sunday: Spiders, Rap A Tap Tap, Word Family Bootcamp And Shapes

It’s Schedulin Sunday! This week we kick off our second quarter with spiders, shapes, Word Family Bootcamp, and Rap A Tap Tap!

Lesson Plans

As always, you can download our weekly lesson plans by clicking on the image!

You can get our EDITABLE lesson plan template by clicking on the image below:

Phonics And Phonemic Awareness Word Family Bootcamp

We are following our required foundational skills curriculum. And we are supplementing with our TKS BOOTCAMP Word Family Bootcamp! Our foundational skills curriculum really starts to focus on segmenting, word chaining and blending, and writing words using sounds. This is exactly what we do with our science of reading aligned Word Family Bootcamp! Each week we do two-word families. Day 1 is a circle chart that includes segmenting sounds, spelling words, and blending words. Day 2 is word building and writing which is more segmenting, more spelling, and more blending.

Reading Comprehension-Rap A Tap Tap

This week we are using our required reading curriculum by reading the book Rap A Tap Tap. This is a fantastic story about Bojangles and is one I highly recommend! We supplement with our Read It Up! resource. We are required to do 3 lessons a week so that’s what we do. We focus on the “learn” section of each lesson and use our Read It Up! to scaffold and support student learning!

This week we are focusing on analyzing pictures, using our senses to write about what we see and hear in a story, and making predictions. We’re also acting out the story which is always a blast and the kids get really into it!

Spiders Research Project

This week we continue our month-long celebration of all things Halloween with our Spiders Research Project!

As with all of our TKS Research Projects, we start our spider schema map. Then we will do a can/have/are chart, and label the parts of a spider!

We will also do some fun spider art projects! First is a simple construction paper spider!

Later in the week, we do these cute hand-print spiders!

Math

This year our district is using Illustrative Math as our math curriculum. We will be completing those lessons and supplementing them heavily with our Math It Up! resources and this week we’re using our Shapes Bootcamp to supplement! We’re focusing on identifying shapes, sorting shapes, comparing and contrasting shapes and find shapes around us!

Each day we will read a shape book and look for shapes in the book. We will discuss shapes that are the same and different. We also do a shape word web for each shape.

One of the activities in our curriculum calls for students to color shapes that are the same. We turn this into a game called Guess The Shape! I pull a shape from a bag, we identify the shape and we color the shape on our paper! Click the image at the end of the post to see the details on guess the shape and grab the free recording sheet!

Read It Up: Creepy Pair Of Underwear

Friday is Creepy Underwear day! We will read Creepy Pair Of Underwear, do a story map and make our own pair of creepy underwear!

And yes, there is a costume! It’s a DIY costume…because…believe it or not…you can’t buy a creepy pair of underwear costumes! I just used green foam board, paper, and a marker to make my costume!

Mad Scientist Thursday

This week we’re going to do Exploding Ghosts!

And yes, you must dress the part!

Foodie Fun Friday

Our snack this week is a spider using Oreos, pretzels, and M&Ms!
